Michael Anissimov

From Anissimov's user page:
I created this website, http://acceleratingfuture.com in 2002. I am 24 years old.
My main goal in life for the time being is to raise money for Friendly AI and other projects to mitigate the risks of AI, nanotechnology, and synthetic biology. I have been a supporter of Friendly AI since 2001.
I'm concerned about runaway seed AI being created between today and 2030. It might not happen that soon, but still, I think there's a significant probability that it could, and I'm concerned.
I have given talks on Friendly AI and the risks of emerging technologies at conferences and seminars in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Palo Alto, and Yale University.
After taking a few math and science classes at the City College of San Francisco, I decided to skip college and pursue a career in science/technology writing and non-profits. Over 4,000 pages of my writing is available online, mostly at WiseGeek.com, Lifeboat.com, and AcceleratingFuture.com. I have worked or volunteered for the Immortality Institute (which I co-founded in 2002), the Singularity Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Methuselah Foundation, Center for Responsible Nanotechnology, and the Lifeboat Foundation, and am friendly with the leadership of all these organizations.
I was profiled in the May 2007 issue of Psychology Today and my blog has been featured on G4.TV's Attack of the Show as well as the front pages of Digg and Reddit. Since my blog was founded in 2006, it's received over 4 million visits.
I live in San Francisco with my girlfriend Sarah Rose, who is pursuing a dual major in English and Theater. I was born in Burlingame, CA, and moved to San Francisco in 2000. Around San Francisco, I hang out at the beach, in Golden Gate Park, downtown, and on the peaks of the City's many hills. I have climbed (though not necessarily summited) several mountains, including Mt. Shasta and Mt. Whitney in California and Mt. Elbrus in Russia. My favorite food at the moment is oysters. My favorite ecosystem is the Hawaiian Rainforest.
